My two cents (echoing in part what Florian said), Critical pieces of
information devs need include:
* dpkg-architecture vars do not clearly reflect the click chroot --architecture
(they reflect the host system).
* to install compiled build dep debian pkgs, you must add the architecture to
the pk
I went ahead and installed qtdeclarative5-qtmir-plugin and qtmir-desktop
from wily-proposed and now the session starts as it should.
I think I'll leave this open until the packages transition out of
-proposed in case someone else runs into this problem and can reference
this bug.

I have filed separate bug 1485685 with a detailed investigation that
perhaps covers this issue, but I deliberately didn't take over this bug
in case it is different. I'll mark this as a duplicate for now; if
