This is happening in stable released 14.10. It appears to happen only when
running skype (not tested with other applications that consume microphone
input).
1. Open Ubuntu Control Center → Sound → Input
2. Do a Skype call (eg. Echo call)
3. Adjust the microphone volume in Ubuntu Software Center
This is still relevant but we expect to be a lot clearer with this bug

Oh, I did not at first see that the bugreport is related to eatmydata.
libeatmydata changed the .so localtion between utopic and vivid (from
/usr/lib to /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu), but the LD_PRELOAD was set only
once before starting aptitutde (sudo eatmydata aptitude) and hence was
pointing to the

execs in his perf-tools package, the whole thing is a goldmine of
amazing tools:

not shure if this is the same bug i'm having but i also got my bq Aquaris
(ubuntu ed.) a few days ago and tried updating to r21. In the Update manager it
stops after downloading (no progress is shown whilst downloading, but only for
the system image, apps were shown correct) and shows a grey
