I know what this message means, the question is why it is displayed when
clicking on a download link. And it was not a pdf or something, it was an
example with the TBB on the tor webpage.

Think of Word and PDF documents as potential connect-back shells; then you may
understand the warnings better.

the warning that opening the document might unmask one.
This warning is clearly valid for some documents, because they automatically
connect to web-based resources to download linked files and images without
going thr
