Onion sites sounds nice to me too. But we might have to change the

Since these things are mostly used for websites, why not call them
"onion sites" or "onionsites"?
Typical users don't talk about web services, they talk about web sites
I'll start trying "onion service" and just see if it catches on.

That's true. But there is a sense in which Tor should be used

I am working on fixing up some aspects of tor2web. I've heard talk of
using the term "onion service" or "tor service" instead of "hidden

You make a very valid point!!

If all users use Tor only for sensitive communications, then state level
adversaries can round up all users of Tor and the provided anonymity is of
little use.
Cat photos and Amazon shopping by non-subversives gives vulnerable users cover
and is fundimental to the usefulness of Tor.

Hey,
Just wanted to pass this on to everyone. This is great news.
It's not as great news as if they had decided to take the
route Facebook took and run a hidden service, or if the English
Wikipedia community decided to allow editing for Tor users, but
it is still fantastic news to hear.
Thank yo
I agree! Tor should be used selectively because of bandwidth. The number of
tor users is going up, which is great, but as the number of users increase so
does the burden on the tor net.

Great, so now ALL traffic from a user of this product will be on
TOR? Amazon, Facebook, looking at cute cat videos
Have they have they set aside a few dollars of profit to host servers to
match bandwidth demand?
You see my point? Right. Tor should be used selectively.

Hi there,
after many years of service Mike Perry is retiring his dirauth, turtles.
It hasn't been functional for some time, so we decided to add a new
dirauth to replace it. The new dirauth will be hosted by Micah Anderson
(hi Micah). It'll bring some more geographical diversity to the Tor
network
