I have searched the bugs, internet, this list archive for a solution for this
but have not come up with an answer.
I updated and inherited SM 1.4.10a installation to 1.4.19 and have gotten
everything to work properly following the instructions for updating on the
squirrelmail.

Yes I have read this document and since I have version 1.4.19 it does not look
like I need to add a patch. Otherwise I do not see anything else except for
enabling the plugin via conf.pl which I did. Perhaps I am misreading the
INS

Ok I did:
patch -p0 < patches/msg_flags-squirrelmail-1.4.15.diff in the
plugin/msg_flags directory and now it works.
I would suggest adding to the INSTALL document in number 2:
msg_flags-squirrelmail-1.4.11

I am trying to use Squirrelmail 1.4.21 with gmail (google apps edu) imap. I
know that there is a gmail setting available in the configuration menu. I have
looked in all the documentation and as well used google search but could not
find any documentation on how to best use Squirrelmai

I am able to get squirrelmail to work with gmail without imapproxy. I have
enabled imapproxy on my machine and set squirremail to connect to localhost
port 144I get the following error in squirrelmail:
Error connecting to IMAP server: 127.0.0.1.
111 : Connection refused
