Just upgrade to SM 1.4.1 that will solve your problem.

I'm quite certain that this is an issue with PHP and/or SM not being
able to handle some character or string of characters somewhere in the
headers of the malformed message. I've seen this happen a few times,
but have not had the time to put a finger on the actual problem or a
real solution.
