I used to have squirrelmail here on my computer at work and able to use
it to interact with our exchange servers. A couple months ago after a
software upgrade i cant get it to work anymore. I get the error about

I hit this possible bug the other day too, my workaround was to login
using backslashes (in your example,
domainname\username\firstname.lastname) - I do know that the backslashes
are handled properly by SquirrelMail.. I think this was available as of SM
1.4.1 if I remember correctly.
