I do have quite a few messages in my inbox. If I create a subfolder in my
IMAP structure for older email and put the mail in there would that improve

When I connect to my mail server (hMail) using Squirelmail I always get a
timeout on the first try (telling me it has exceeded 30 seconds). However,
if I try to login again a second time it always works. Should I just adjust
