I had the same ( slow login problem ) on a Cobalt Qube with SM 1.2.8. It is the
folder refresh
page which is slowest, I think a way of caching it would be good like in Outlook.
However that is
not there yet so I tried some other stuff.
It uses UW IMAP, and mine was set to CYRUS in conf
