The server runs a redhat 7.2 distro called SME server. It has Apache and PHP 4.1.3.
We have been using Squirrel for a couple of years with no problems until a new router
and DSL at the client side stops

check the php.ini file in /etc
and replace the part UpLoad_Files=Off
with UpLoad_Files=On
that may solve your problem
