WELL ... i finally discovered the answer ... fwiw, the engardelinux documentation called for the smtp server to be set to localhost .. but the CORRECT answer seems to be 127.0.0.1 odd, but worked ! thanks to everyone who helped me on this issue ... i'm done for the day :-)
