Apart from the strange English, what exactly does this do? I have turned

The Date column seems to be always date sent and the triangle/square icon
at the top seems to sort this ascending or descending, whilst the square
icon seems to put it in

Index Options specifies the sequence of the columns not the messages.
If the Add button is not there it just means that you have already
selected all the columns to be displayed.

Sorting the message list by Date is the default. But the date used seems
to be the date/time sent not the date/time received, which does not seem
so helpful to me either as it causes exactly what you describe.
