So your recommendation is to Modify cachePrefValues() in
functions/file_prefs.php to not trim whitespace?
I tried commenting out $pref = trim($pref); and it caused the mailbox to not
display properly when you log in.

I can change it to another character and see if that helps. I will probly
use [ though instead of !.
Btw, from looking at the html in the mail spool I see that the <> are <
and >, so I don't know that changing them in the email generation program
would help.

With squirrelmail 1.4.5-1 use a url formed like the following:
http:squirrelmail/src/login.php to login to your
squirrelmail site.
Notice that after logging in, the links (like search) are:
http://squirrelmail/src/search.php?mailbox=INBOX
So all of the links produce page not found errors.
