I found this in the Squirrelmail FAQ under PHP Errors. The second part
worked for me when I upgraded MySQL.
Preference database error (connect failed). Exiting abnormally - when
trying to use Mysql as a preference database.
One such possible solution is that your using Mysql 4.08 and
ocal machine and it didn't seem to pass the domain as well. So I thank
everyone for their help and I will continue on my path to find out what
is going on.
