[SM-USERS] Disappearing emails on squirrelmail-1.4.3a

I have just installed SquirrelMail on my Slackware 9.1 kernel 2.4.26 system and have noticed that as mail is read it appears to disappear. Is there a rm in action here? Please tell me how I leave read mail on the server. I have looked at http://www.washington.edu/imap/IMAP-FAQs/index.html#7.6
