Any suggestions as to how one might eliminate these type entries in the
mailog?

I have nothing interesting in my mailog, just:
imaplogin: LOGIN, [EMAIL PROTECTED], ip=[:::127.0.0.1]
imaplogin: LOGOUT, [EMAIL PROTECTED], ip=[:::127.0.0.1], headers=0,
