Interesting. I just tried turning register_globals on, and the behavior
got even more loopy.
FWIW, with SM-1.2.11 on PHP 4.0.5, everything works perfectly with
register_globals on or off.

Brett,
Are you trying to send mail immediately after making the changes to the
prefs? Have you tried sending mail after logging out and back into SM?
If not, give that a try.
Also, what version of PHP are you running?
