Why dig in the source? There should be documentation, and probably some
kind of configuration options where you can choose your encryption
method. Or even a vpopmail mailing list out there somewhere
Good luck, I'd be glad to help if you've any problems after tracking
down that info.
Cheers,

Hi Jonathan,
Just after a bit of help please. Um, well I tried
the suggestion below, but can't work out how the $key is generated. You see, we
have usernames and passwords within our intranet database. These match the
usernames and passwords of our IMAP mailboxes. We have a button within th
After digging a bit, it looks like maybe it's using cram-md5 instead of
regular MD5.

That's not MySQL encryption either. The MySQL Passwords look like this:
6fe41acf26a3b290
I guess I'll have to go dig into the source.

Well then did you try the MySQL encryption? (set $mysql_saslcrypt=1)
Otherwise, check the docs/config options for vpopmail and see what it is
using (probably a good thing to know anyway).

I'm running Debian Woody, and encountering problems while trying to log

have later versions (whose corresponding fixes are impossible to add).
I'd had no problem logging in over squirrelmail 1.2.6, but suddenly it's

I just tried to get your change password plugin working with my vpopmail/SQL
setup. The only problem is, I don't know what to choose for encrypting the
passwords. For example, one of my encrypted passwords looks like this:
$1$BZhYN$iKm2Mx/erRsaqVcwiBeLg1
That's not an MD5, and I tested, and it's
That's actually not an error message, it's a debugging message that I
accidently left in. Does the password change when you get that message?
Thanks,
Seth.

The xinetd.d poppassd contains disable=no, socket_type=stream, wait=no,
user=root, server=/usr/sbin/poppassd, only_from=127.0.0.1.
Everything works fine, but I can not seem to get my hosts.allow and
hosts.deny statements figured out.
What should they be? I have tried the hosts.deny setup in the
I am paul, and I have been doing most of the work on one of the SM plugins
that you might be able to use (but didn't want to specifically recommend
it unless I understood your setup a bit better). If you have a setup like

Does anyone know if any of the existing vacation plugins work with Bill's

I am sorry, I don't know if I understand completely. Are you saying there
is a plug-in for SM that allows the changing of passwords when you run on
top of vpopmail? I am already running vpopmail with vchkpw. What would
Paul's last name be?
Thanks,

you just have to install vpopmail correctly and the plug in made available
by paul :) will allow the password change without any problem
vpopmail install can be found at www.inter7.com and forums are also there

Not nessesary. You can greate a "login" button with a form and a POST

No changes to squirrel mail are nessesary, and if you use SSL for your
page, it can actually be done fairly securely.

Hi all!
I detected a strange behaviour with squirrelmail if I enabled
"unixhierarchysep = yes" in cyrus' /etc/imapd.conf
This is a new option in cyrus 2.1.x which allows usernames like
blah.example.com. the delimiter "." will be reprensented by "^" in the filesystem
and user/blah.example.com in i

Again, sorry, I know nothing of Vpopmail or vchkpw, but do you know where
vchkpw looks when it authenticates its users? The SM plugin probably has
to circumvent vchkpw and manipulate the source where the id's and pwd's
are actually stored.

Actually, I did and that is why I asked. Vpopmail uses vchkpw, and I did
not see a plugin for it.

I've never used Vpopmail, but have corresponded with people who do and who
have successfully used one of the change password plugins. It's more
dependent upon where your usernames and passwords are stored than Vpopmail
(me thinks). Have a look at the Change Password category of plugins -
