I think this has nothing to do with LTR in particular.
have you tried executing the function query on its own ?
I think it doesn't exist at all, right ? [1]
So maybe the first approach to that would be to add this nested children
function query capability to Solr.

No answers so far, but I have found a workaround that fits my needs. Maybe
it will help somebody in the future.
The solution is transparent to the client system.
Use the XSLT response writer
a. create a stylesheet that understands the query response XML format
b. let's assume the query returns
