Does this mean one of them is going to be deprecated or does it also
allow for the future case of Solr supporting named indexes per
application?
It also seems that the indexDefaults covers a few more options
related to the lock timeouts. Are these inherited?

Or simply create a new copy of the file using vi locally on the system
where you are running solr. Don't cut and paste since you may include
the non-printing characters that way too. Simply type in the content
of the file.
