An XOFF/Ctrl-s will prevent additional output in at least most cases, I
think, won't it? Ctrl-q to resume. (Or, depending on flow control
settings and if you
ough they may be.
Erm, this is confusing. Are you providing Kerberos as an example where
PAM is not sufficient? Because PAM works very well with Kerberos.
Unless you mean you're trying to authenticate with already-existing
Kerberos tickets without supplying a pa
rxvt? What terminal emulators _don't_ let you hide the scrollbar?
