Screen status line renders differently in 4.2.1

I have this status line: hardstatus alwayslastline "%{= kG}[ %{G}%l ]%{g}[%= %{=kw}%?%-Lw%?%{r}(%{W}%n*%f%t%?(%u)%?%{r})%{w}%?%+Lw%?%?%= %{g}][%{W}%c %{g}]" In 4.0.0.03jw4 it looked like the first attachment. In 4.2.1 it gets random red characters mixed in like the second attachment. Bug
