JFTR: That's a quite old version. Some bugs in there may be already
fixed in newer versions.
Any chance to try a more recent version? 4.00.03 is probably the most
distributed version

Well, so much for that idea. I am still getting the hangs, despite logging
into a shell and then running screen (instead of using ssh -t), and there
is still no output to the terminal or any kind of message being displayed
that I can see regarding the hang.
