anything weird in your profile that could cause the shell to exit?

Every once in a while Screen gets into a state where I am
not able to create a new window. The behavior is "ctrl-a c"
opens a new window for about 1 second, then immediately
closes it. I can't reproduce the problem, but wanted to
know if anyone was aware of this issue.
$ screen --version
