understanding goes, that is certainly not correct.

The sequence is different inside screen. Instead, (for bash) do
PROMPT_COMMAND='echo -ne "\033_hello1\033\\"'
For something like .bashrc, it's best to test if you're inside a screen
session by checking the $TERM variable before setting the above
variable.
