As it is now the user needs to initiate a redraw for the hardstatus to
update and display possible changes caused by other connected terminals.
I've been this kludge to get around it:
backtick 1 1 1 true
but it would be nice to get rid of this one since it causes some
unwanted sideef

Unfortunately I cannot help you, but the funny error message comes from
the 'nethack' setting. It's documented in 'man screen'. Onc
