I got the sources of crafty 21.6 from http://www.craftychess.com/ and compiled
it on my SuSE 10.3 run

that ships with open suse 10.3

yup, the tk-devel package was missing.
Now
./configure
make
./scid
gives me an error window =

information what you did, and how did it fail - in particular which
error message you got.

I use Suse, and typing
./configure
make
./scid
should be sufficient (if all devel packages are installed like gcc,
tcl-devel; tk-devel, etc.)
You can also use
make install
as root.
I stopped building RPM packages years ago, given the huge diversity of
Linux distributions.
