After a drive failure recently, I had to reinstall Scid, and in the
process I lost my nice little "scid mark" icon that I was using to start
Scid from my XFCE desktop. Could someone please point me to the
location of this? I've searched the download without being able to find it.
Best to all.
Sorry, my bad! I failed to notice "db".

Not that I know which is correct, but did you mean THE devloper, or the
principal developer?

I apologize for my ignorance, but it would be useful to hear an
explanation of these forks, or to be pointed to an existing one.

I googled on the subject problem and found some rather obscure
recommendations, mostly in previous conversations in this list. I could
not find a previous reference to what I believe is a satisfactory
workaround:
Edit /scid/configure and include "/usr/share/doc/libx11-dev" in x11Path

They tell me I am subscribed to this list; but I receive nothing from
it. This is a test. I am sorry for any inconvenience this causes.

You ask where I would turn if I gave up on SCID. A better question for
an open source project like this one is what a number of people, capable
of writing code, would do if they didn't like the direction the project
was taking.

Since you ask, I perhaps should say that I am an old Unix hand and I
fully subscribe to the "do one thing well" philosophy. Much of what I
see from the SCID list server causes me to worry that SCID is on the
path to becoming bloatware. There seem to be a great many calls for
gingerbread with icing
(which is, I
suspect, why TWIC employs no captcha on its download page). TWIC doesn't
own this data.

I don't know if it is of any importance at all, but recently when
analyzing the file scid.eco I noticed that there some problems with the
notation. There are:
* several bad move numbers (usually repeating the previous move number)
* several checks delivered but not asserted
* several captures mad
ICOFY may not, but Opening Master DOES have this info. I really can't
say enough good about Opening Master, if you're willing to pay the
subscription fee.

I rely on Opening Master, out of Bratislava. Their main data base
currently contains 6.1 million games. They claim no duplicates, and
duplicates are indeed difficult to discover. What seem to be duplicates
are often different match games played between the same players. In any

When I export a file of PGN games, I discover if WhiteElo and/or
BlackElo appear within parentheses in the game list, they are not
supplied at all in the exported PGN tags. I also discover, when I
browse one of these games in Scid, again this info is not shown.
Further when I load one of these gam
Yes that is indeed very nice, and I'll probably disable the variations
box and use the arrows, which are more conveninet.
Still that doesn't answer my original concern, which is the behavior of
scid when the variaitons window is open.

I am at a loss to understand how to do this. I have selected via
"search" the games that I would like to delete from the current base.
When I right-click on any one in the "games" window, the option, "delete

would like to do. H

Dear fellow Scid users:
I'm running Scid 4.2.2 on Ubuntu 9.10 and I am quite happy with it. (I
have it hooked up via UCI to DeepShredder12.)
I would like the "games" window to display the continuation from the
current position, rather than the opening from move one (something I

Yeah, I am that Mark Morss.
Very constructive idea. Thanks.
