Not an answer to your question, but I always compile SCID from source to get
the latest changes - I've subscribed to the project feed on SourceForge. It's
quite easy and only needs GCC, CMake and Tcl. Let me know if you need the
instructions on how to compile it.

This time SCID is setup on a vertical monitor. There are 8 databases open, 5
of which have got tree windows and best tree games windows.
What do you think?

What exactly happened to the correspondence chess feature in Scid 5.0? Is it
still available somehow under a (hidden) menu or was it totally dropped?

I've recently been using the opening trainer (Play -> Training -> Openings).
I have taken the following steps:
- Created 2 new databases: one filled with my games as White and the other as
Black.
- For each DB, marked all the games as "Openings for White" and "Openings for
Black" respectively.

Thanks Gerhard for your thoughts. It does make sense.
However from *a* user's, i.e. me, perspective I'd like to assume that key
combos which pertain to Board and Notation are always passed down to those
windows irrespective of the active window, unless I'm working with a modal
window or a pop-up m
Often times, I notice that navigation (and move entry) using keyboard doesn't
work. In particular, that happens every time I click on the board or any other
window than Notation.
The workaround I have discovered is to right-click on an empty area of
Notation and then left click (on Notation).

I thought I'd share this as I struggled quite a bit with it before I figured
it out.
When you run an engine via "Tools" -> "Start Engine 1 or 2", by default, the
depth is set to infinity.
To change the value, first kick the engine running, then lock the position and
only after that set the depth.
Excellent. Thank you!

Given how configurable Scid is and the breadth of its feature set, I suppose
there's no particular setup/layout that works for everyone.
I always wonder how others are using Scid and if there's anything I can learn
from them.
So I thought we could share a screenshot of our favourite or most comfo

I am very pleased with the feature set, stability and the ease of use of Scid.
Yes, there are plenty of points for improvement but even in its current
state, Scid stands a head and shoulder above every other chess database I've
ever seen and is 2nd only to ChessBase IMHO.
I'm wondering if there's
Hey all,
Today, I accidentally pressed Ctrl+A while the Notation window was active: it
added a new variation!
That made wonder is there a list of keyboard shortcuts available somewhere?
Especially those pertaining to Board window and Notation windows.

Today's tip of the day for me was about "trial mode":
If you are playing through a game and want to try out some
moves without altering the game, simply turn on Trial mode
(with the Ctrl+space shortcut or from the toolbar icon), then
turn it off again to return to the original game w
I keep running into this little annoyance almost every few minutes. It's
not a major issue, though I'm wondering if I have misconfigured something
which causes the PGN window to lose focus.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Load any game. Keyboard navigation works as expected.
2. Use one of the navigation b
There are some options/settings which don't seem to be persisted between
runs. Am I missing something obvious? Is there a way for the user to make
them persistable?
A couple of examples are:
1) Tree window: "Cache Size" and "Lock"
2) Analysis engine window: "Show engine info", "Show analysis boar
It does indeed. Thanks 🙏

I've been trying to find a way to enter null moves in my analyses but it
doesn't seem like it is supported. Am I missing something obvious? If not,
how do you work around it?
