So far, my use of engines with Scid has been limited to dropping the
.exe file (windows) into a directory and telling Scid where it is. I
haven't messed at all with configuring parameters, UCI or otherwise.
I just downloaded Homer, however, and it doesn't work this way. when I
try to use it I get

Sadly I am no programmer.
But I thought Xiangqi players did not care much about openings.
Something like http://www.01xq.com is good enough for me.
It only took one programmer to create Scid.
Too bad Shane did not think of creating a tool extendable to an infin
Scid has been around since the 90s as well, if I recall correctly. And it's
better than those other programs you mention, of course :-)
But you don't explain one thing: if Xiangqi is the most popular game in the
world, why don't Xiangqi players write software for it? Why don't you?
