Scid 4.0 "official" hasn't been released yet. You can download a beta from here:

Just experienced the following while adding custom flags:
- Define a new custom flag: if the text is to long (?) Scid silently
dies. The input box allowed me to add a 9 chars tag, but it seems the
length is limited. Using a shorter text works.
