Is there some documentation on the new tree mask function? I just could not
understand it. When I start a new mask, a window opens to save a .stm file,

I don't know checkinstall, but what comes out after "make install" ?
If checkinstall issues a fake installation and tries to chmod non existent
files, it seems rather normal to get errors.
