I was unaware that I had apache started since I don't runa web server. yet. I
cranked everything down pretty low so Quake2 gets all the resources. :-D

Hello!
Do you run Apache? I think it's due to the spawing/forking in apache. Try
decreasing the MinSpareServers, MaxSpareServers and StartServers settings in
/etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf. Hope that helps.
