What is preventing you from just using grecord then? :-)

but it doesn't work.
The mixer settings are OK, and I can hear the sound I want to record,
but when I issue the command:
rec -t wav Desktop/test4.wav
--> the file test4.wav is 0kb big even after 1 minute recording. Does
