Yeah.. I did some study on this via google, and found
out that error only comes up when you have lilo
installed.
But remember the lilo.conf file was basically void of
any kernel stuff in there.
So instead of the RPM correctly updating both
grub.conf and lilo.conf, it did update grub.conf
correctl
That latest versions of the drivers worked, should have checked that, but it
just went clear over my head. Thanks a lot.

I don't know this for sure but i *think* i had a problem like this when
i was trying to rebuild the old NVIDIA src.rpm's (compiled for gcc-2-x)
on my redhat 8.0 machine (gcc-3-x) check the NVIDIA site for the latest
version of the packages, if you already have the latest ones, then i

NVIDIA video card. So i do this:
rpmbuild --rebuild NVIDIA_kernelsrc.rpm
And it begins to build until this error gets spit out at me.

Hi all
I'm getting this...

This problem started after trying to upgrade rpm with up2date last time!
Can someone help
You could, instead, run :
"rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.9-21.i386.rpm kernel-headers-2.4.9-21.i386.rpm"

I don't know. I was doing it (-Uvh) with all the other
packages...why I wanted to do it different on this one, beats me. I need
more sleep, or more caffeine...

kernel-headers is needed by glibc-devel-2.2.4-19.3

Can I safely run this with -nodeps, and then load up 2.4.9-21

Brian:
Try:
rpm --rebuilddb
I think it is documented in the man page as well.

Something happened to the RPM database on one of my machines.
When I type rpm -qa it will print about 45 package names, then abort with
"Data type 0 not supported". I also get the error when trying to install
or erase some packages, and even worse, its produced on an rpm
--rebuilddb:

Hi:
I have installed Redhat 5.1. However when I attempt to install a pgp rpm
I get a message that it cannot be installed because it conflicts with a
file installed by textutils (/usr/bin/md5sum). Is there anyway I can get
around this? Since glint does not seem to be working I am a little lost.

I'm trying to install the xemacs rpm for rh5, but when I do an rpm -Uvh on
it I get this:
[root@pooh /tmp]# rpm -Uvh xemacs-20.4-1.i386.rpm
error: xemacs-20.4-1.i386.rpm cannot be installed
I've tried downloading it twice, just in case it got scrambled, but that
didn't fix it.
