Or
directly modify sendmail.cf, look for stmp deamon section then change 127.0.0.1
to your ip address

A stock RedHat install has sendmail configured to only listen on 127
I should have mentioned that I have checked that. I turned off all rules. When I issue
/etc/rc.d/init.d/ipchains status
all three lines show ACCEPT.
Any other ideas?

Go to /etc/mail and look at sendmail.mc. Check out the verbage at the
bottom and make sure you have commented out the line restricting sendmail
to only listening to localhost. Then rerun the macro per instruction at
the top of the file.
