Mail for the root account is normally forwarded to one or more real users.

Yes, I'm currently trying to check root's email via a normal user's
account. I'm not worried about sending root's password, since I'm only
doing this on the localhost.

aha! when you create an account using "useradd", by default, they're
locked and you can't log in to them, which leaves you with two choices:
1) # p
I created the accounts after install. I tried creating the other accounts
afterwards using useradd.

I have just installed RedHat 8.0 with a graphical
startup. I now find that I cannot logon as any other user than root.
It does not accept the password which is entered. I have never encountered
this in a previous version of Redhat. Is there some feature or "bug" that
I am unaware of?

You cannot depend on what any of your sysadmin tools are telling you. I'm
surprised they even left the system log

Hmmlooking at that stuff, looks like someone used an
exploit and got in. I'd say reinstall time.

Friends,
We recently setup Red Hat 6.2 (server installed) and yesterday I had to go
change the root password via linux single mode (the client couldn't su to
root). At any rate, here is the problem.
The client can't login with the user password that he set; however, he can
login via the root pas

Hello,
Currently
Project :- Migrate from the Current Mail running RedHat 6.1 Server to the new
server running RH 6.1
The problem is : -
1) In the installation of RH6.1 making sure there is "NO" shadow passwords.
2) As soon as I installed RH 6.1 and did the following : -
tail -f /etc/passwd
Why does /etc/passwd file still give me the shadow password after I made
sure the installation doesn't specify any shadow password file?
Looking forward to your feedback
