Hi,
does anyone know how can I connect to internet by the modem? I used the kppp
program, and tried all the device drivers ( /dev/modem does not exist,

Per Steve Cowles on the Shrike list, here's another way to solve the
AOL/DHCP issue. I like this better than the SMARTHOST option, as it
allows finer control over the delivery. I've tried it and it works fine
with AOL and allows me to send other mails without relaying through my
ISP.

Hi
Could one of you experts please tell me how to install an Alcatel USB modem on
Red Hat 8. I know it can be done as I have seen it in action and the Alcatel
site provides linux drivers for download.
Not sure on how to proceed after downloading the driver.
Many thanks in advance.

the link doesn't have to be set.. just do 'minicom -s' to set minicom up.

It's nothing wrong whith your modem.
Since ppp 2.3.10, pppd needs to be able to open /dev/ppp character device

create it :
# mknod /dev/ppp c 108 0
Then, if you have ppp load as a module ( sure you do ), you will

Whoops. Just noticed you said it was a Zoom modem. Is this a 56k
zoom? Is it also PCI? If so, chances are it's a "softmodem."

You don't tell us the brand and model of the modem. It MAY be a
"software" (aka "WinModem") modem. If so, it's likely NOT to work at
all.

I run the script I get:

Any more suggestions? Oh, I also, bought a new modem
