For documents which are mostly text, I don't think anything beats LaTeX http://www.latex-project.org. The output looks like Gutenberg himself set the type. Of course, if you haven't used LaTeX before, it'll take some time to learn. But it'll be a good investment. Good luck, Hidong Reub
