I get an additional dedicated phone line paid for, and
from what I have heard, that's the only proper way to
do it, for 2 reasons:
1. It keeps digital noise off your voice line
2. A voice line

I moved recently. Basic DSL 768up/128 down cost $50 and recently went down
to $40 at the old location, but costs about $80 here. I believe the
cost will be whatever the market will bear. Yes, I moved to a more
"upscale" area (but only 30 miles away).
bummer.

Eddie,
I just did the switch from a home LAN / modem combo to DSL myself.
Price was about the same as yours. The speed you get depends on what
the Telco allows and how far you are from their office. It was fun to
get it all up and running, and the speed increase is nice.

Eddie,
I have DSL running through USWest (ugh :-( ). RH6.2 as masquerade
server and ipchains. Very easy to set up and if you got the dial up running,
then DSL setup a snap. If I am correct, if you use a masquerade server you
will need to IP addresses, one for the inside port of the DSL
I pay $39.95 a month for Bell Atlantic, 640kbit downstream,
90kbit upstream. Make sure you get an external DSL modem
