Are you using "tar -x somefile.tar"? If so, that's the problem. Try
"tar xf somefile.tar". Tar reads from standard input unless you specify
a "-f filename". "tar xvf somefile.tar" will print a pretty list of the
files which it unpacks, and "tar zxvf somefile.tar.gz" (or .tgz) will
un-gzip a
Have you tried expeecting "Student" by itself? Maybe chat will ignore the
rest? If chat sends the response before the server is ready, perhaps a
delay would work..

This is buried in the procmail man page somewhere... You need to
"forward" your mail to procmail. In addition to .procmailrc, create
.forward .
It should contain something like this:
"|IFS=' '&&exec /usr/bin/procmail -f-||exit 75 #yourusername"
