I am doing this right now.
What I have is a qmail email server that accepts all messages. Scans
them for spam using spamassassin/razor and then forwards them to my
exchange server which has a virus scanning system on it. This was very
easy to do and setup.

The reason this happened is because Redhat decided not to ship any mp3
decoding software in RH 8.0
If you go to http://www.xmms.org/ you will be able to download an update
that will allow you to play mp3's
