Yes, but then you still get the old name in the prompt so long as you have
not logged out...

On RH 7.3, it's in /etc/sysconfig/network that you have to change the
hostname. And then you still have to logout and log back in before it is
visible...

OK, now I really got it. The person who bought the RH Advanced Server didn't
activate the product yet. That's why I couldn't get anything. Now we are
getting somewhere...

Hello, seems to me like with your chmod 0600 you
are trying to make this file non executable, which is not a good idea. According
to the existing rights on this file you have the permission to edit it
as root. What is happening when you try to edit it with vi?
