in the script /etc/rc.d/init.d/named it calls for named to start as:

I am not sure how it worked in 6.1 but you might try changing the script or
adding a user named. I think I did not have a problem because i did a clean
install
Hope that helps

why don't you just grab an iso image file and burn from that. Any ftp client
will work for that.

I guess one question I have about this whole issue is I like everyone else
in the Linux community believe in open source, but if a company dosen't want
to open it's source what is stopping them from diong a bianary only version
of a DVD viewer, they do that for Windows and Mac's. I guess my point
Just to add to this, LILO overwrote your MBR and this is why you cant' boot

It sounds like you are starting X in Runlevel 5 you need to change it to
runlevel 3.

My 1st suggestion would be to read the book that the cd's came with, a least
the 1st few chapters. It should explain how to partion for Linux usind fdisk
(BTW, that is not DOS fdisk it is a version for Linux) also on the cd's
should be a copy of the RedHat Install Guide that you could acess from d
/etc/rc.d/rc.local
Or, if you want the rc.serial file, just make one.
cat <<-EOF >/etc/rc.d/rc.serial
#!/bin/bash
setserial blah
EOF
^D
If the rc scripts don't automatically look for an rc.serial, just
add a call from the bottom of rc.local:
echo ". /etc/rc.d/rc.serial" >> /etc/rc.d/rc.local
T
sounds like a nameserver problem. make sure in /etc/resolve.conf you have
the domain name of your ISP and the ip addresses to their nameservers.
