[R] Moving axis-labels

Hi, This is hopefully quite a straightforward quandary. I have made a simple R plot but the values on my x-axis are sufficiently large enough that they interfere my x-axis label. How can I shunt the x-axis label further away from the x-axis? Thanks Jim -- JS Walker jw2
