My question was prompted by seeing various prospective
cohort studies which are deriving the RR of colorectal cancer due to
smoking and which simply censor
people who die from diseases other then colorectal cancer and then use
coxph to get an

Hi Geoff,
I think the answer to such a problem (overall survival vs. disease free
survival) depends on the regulatory
environment, for example, in a phase III clinical trial, OS would be
used, whereas in an equivalence study,
DFS would be used.
