Without a reproducible example it's hard to say for certain, but I
imagine you want
buybdge != badge
or
!(buybdge == badge)
Note that ?"==" (the help for == ) would have told you that.

I know how to subset by is: buy1 <- subset(buy,buybdge==badge)
How do I subset if I don't want buybdge to equal badge?
