Hi !
I use maxNR function (from maxLik package) to estimate parameters via maximum
likelihood and Newton–Raphson method.
Context :
I have a variable Y which follows a Gumbel distribution of parameters Beta1X1 +
Beta2X2 (location parameter) and sigma (scale parameter).
I have to estimate sigma,
Hi Rolf,
Looks like it is indeed the Halloween ghosts!
I did what you said and it worked. Thank you!
Do you know how the .RData might have gotten corrupted?
Thanks again,

I turned the startup script back on and tried installing stringr. It went
smoothly. Seems like the ghosts are gone. No clue how the corruption
happened though.
Thanks to both of you! Happy Halloween :D
Best,
Emma

Hello
Is there any way that I can be removed from the list-serv? Let me know if
I need to do anything.
Thanks so much

In any case, I will definitely take a look at the plyr package, which I'm sure
will be useful in the future.
Thanks again!

I am making frequency histograms using the histbackback function on my 2
datasets. However when I try to use the brks function:
foo<-histbackback(log(fie11),
log(fie86),ylim=c(0,9),probability=FALSE,axes=TRUE,ylab=("log10 Parcel
Size"),brks=16)
The graphic results in a 'NA' label for the y
, and j) and
randomly sample a, c, and f from that group. How do I sample again from the
larger group (a-j) but exclude the items (a,c,f) that I have already
sampled. I want this to be a function, so I don't want to just manually
exclude a,c, and f.
Thanks!

Is there anyway I can get rid of the correlations in the parameters so that
I can use them in the same model? Or is there another option to boost n, ie
bootsrapping??
Thanks again

Hi Emma,
Continuous predictors are no problem at all. You can mix both continuous

Thanks Greg, that does make sense. And I've solved the problem by rounding
the variables before taking the difference between them.
Thanks to all who replied.
