Currently, solve.default() is defined such that
> identical(dimnames(solve.default(a, b)),
list(dimnames(a)[[2L]], dimnames(b)[[2L]]))
is always TRUE, i.e., ignoring names(dimnames(a)) and names(dimnames(b)).
