Thank you: applied now.
Note mainly to the list: mailers are prone to expand tabs and wrap
lines, so this patch needed to be applied by hand. This keeps on
happening, so it is better to send patches as plain text attachments
(or also put them on a website).

exhaustive test in R for the two new options.

Thank you for the suggested patch, but you have not provided any
tests.
With reasonably comprehensive tests we wil consider it, but not
otherwise (no one in R-core is likely to use this, so we need to
automate tests that it keeps on working in future releases).
